सुरतेवरील स्वारी
सुरत लुटीचा पहिला दिवस. सकाळी आकरा वाजता लूटीला सुरूवात झाली. अहोरात्र लूट चालली होती. आख्खी जकात लूटली गेली. सुरतचा खुबसूरत सुभेदार इनायद खान "बहाद्दर" शेपूट घालून किल्ल्यात लपून बसला. रक्षणासाठी त्याने काहीही केले नाही. उलट भरपूर लाच खाऊन सुरतच्या नामांकित व्यापार्यांना सहकुटूंब किल्ल्यात घेतले. आक्रमणातही इनायतखानाने लाच खायची संधी सोडली नाही. पूर्ण सुरतेची पळता भूई थोडी झाली.

सुवर्णतुला....
श्री क्षेत्र महाबळेश्वर येथील शंकर मंदिरात शिवाजी महाराजांनी राजमाता जिजाऊ साहेब व सोनोपंत डबीर यांची सुवर्णतुला केली.
या दिवशी सूर्यग्रहण होते.
या मंदिरापासून समर्थ स्थापीत मारूती व मठ जवळच आहे. या दिवशी महाबळेश्वराचे मंदिर गजबजून गेले होते. ग्रहणकाल लागला.
स्नानादि विधी झाले आणि एका पारड्यात आईसाहेबांना बसविण्यात आले. दुसर्या पारड्यात सोन्याच्या मोहरा-पुतळ्या टाकण्यास सुरूवात झाली.
शास्त्री पंडीत तुलादानविधीचे मंत्र म्हणत होते. आईसाहेबांना या सोहळ्यापेक्षा शिवबाचेच कौतुक वाटत होते. माझा मुलगा !
केवढा रम्य आणि संस्मरणीय प्रसंग हा ! उंचच उंच सह्याद्रीचे ते वृक्षाच्छादित शिखर.
तेथे ते प्राचीन शिवमंदिर.
जवळच पंचगंगांच्या उगमधारा खळखळताहेत.
ब्राह्मण वेदमंत्र म्हणताहेत.
एका पारड्यात आई बसलेली आहे आणि एक मुलगा दुसर्या पारड्यांत ओंजळीओंजळीने सोने ओतीत आहे. मातृदेवो भव ! पितृदेवो भव ! आचार्य देवो भव ! राष्ट्राय देवो भव !
जगाच्या इतिहासात इतक उदात्त उदाहरण दूसरीकडे नाही.
ही आमची संस्कृती आहे.
"मदर्स डे" ही आमची संस्कृती नाही. वर्षातील केवळ एक दिवस आईसाठी नसतो.
आमचे आवघे आयुष्य आई-वडिलांना समर्पित आहे.
अभाग्या हिंदूंनी आजच्या दिवशी किमान आपल्या आईला नमस्कार तरी करावा ! सोनोपंतांचे नाव आज खर्या अर्थाने सार्थ झाले. दोनिही तूळा पार पडल्या.
सोनोपंत यावेळी खूप थकले होते.

अनाजीपंत व कोंडाजी फर्जंद यांनी पन्हाळगडच्या मनसुब्यासाठी रायगड सोडला. शिवाजी महाराजांनी मोहिमेच्या आधीच कोंडाजी फर्जंदांच्या हातात सोन्याचे कडे चढवून सर्फराजी केली. आता गड मारण्याशिवाय पर्यायच नव्हता. विजयाच्या आधीच बक्षीस मिळाले होते.
