१६७९ च्या पावसाळ्यात माजगावच्या बंदराचे काही काम सुरु असल्याने सुरक्षेच्या दृष्टीने इंग्रजांनी सिद्दीला आरमार सुरतला नांगरण्यास सांगितले व सिद्दी आरमारासह सुरतेस गेला. शिवाजी महाराजांचे हेर या सर्व हालचालींकडे अत्यंत बारीक नजर ठेवून होते आणि या वेळेचा फायदा उठवायचा असे ठरवून महाराजांनी साहित्य, काही दारूगोळा व आपली माणसे चौलच्या ठाण्यात जमवली. इंग्रजांच्या पोर्तुगीज आणि काही हिंदू हेरांकडून ही माहिती इंग्रजांना कळली. हेरांनी स्पष्ट कळवले होते कि जर आज शिवाजीला रोखले नाही तर पुढे हे प्रकरण आवघड होईल त्यामुळे याचा लवकर बंदोबस्त करावा परंतु इंग्रजांनी हे प्रकरण फार मनावर घेतले नाही असे दिसते. कारण याच दिवशी इंग्रजांनी मुंबईच्या रक्षणार्थ तैनात असलेली ‘हंटर’ नामक फ्रिगेट मंगळूरच्या एका व्यापाऱ्याला भाडेतत्वावर दिली. दरम्यान पुढच्या ३-४ दिवसातच चौलला असणारा महाराजांचा ताफा सर्व रिसाल्यासह खांदेरीवर उतरला. या दर्यावर्दी मावळ्यांचा प्रमुख होता मायनाक भंडारी. मायनाक सोबत या वेळी सुमारे १५० माणसे व ४ लहान तोफा होत्या. हे कळताच इंग्रजांना घाम फुटला आणि त्यांनी सप्टें १६७९ सुरुवातीला ही हकीकत सुरतेला कळवली तसेच नारायण शेणवी नामक वकिलाला शिवाजीराजांच्या चौलच्या ठाणेदाराकडे निषेध नोंदवण्याकरिता रवाना केले.

गोव्याच्या पोर्तुगीज व्होईसरॉय याने जाहीर केले कि, “संभाजीराजे मोठे सैन्य घेऊन गोव्यावर चाल करून येणार आहेत तरी सर्वांनी गोव्याच्या संरक्षणाच्या व्यवस्थेस लागावे”.🚩🏇🏻🚩🏇🏻🚩🏇🏻🚩🏇🏻🚩🏇🏻

In the rainy season of 1679, as some work was being done on the port of Mazgaon, for security reasons, the British asked Siddi to plow the armor at Surat and Siddi went to Surat with the armor. Shivaji Maharaj's spies were keeping a very close eye on all these movements and deciding to take advantage of this time, Maharaj gathered literature, some ammunition and his men at the Choul station. The British got this information from the Portuguese and some Hindu spies. Hera had made it clear that if Shivaji was not stopped today, the matter would be difficult in the future, so it should be settled soon, but it seems that the British did not take the matter very seriously. Because on the same day, the British leased a frigate named 'Hunter' to a merchant from Mangalore, which was deployed to defend Mumbai. Meanwhile, within the next 3-4 days, the Maharajah's convoy landed at Khanderi with all the Risalas. Mayanak Bhandari was the chief of these Daryavardi Mavals. There were about 150 men and 4 small guns with Mayanak at this time.
