कोरेगाव भिमाची लढाई
ही महाराष्ट्राच्या पुणे जिल्ह्यामधील कोरेगाव भिमा या गावात भीमा नदीच्या काठावर झालेली एक ऐतिहासिक लढाई आहे. ही लढाई १ जानेवारी इ.स. १८१८ रोजी इंग्रज ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी व मराठा साम्राज्य यांच्यात झाली होती. ब्रिटिशांच्या बाजूने एकूण ८३४ सैनिक होते, ज्यांचे नेतृत्व सेनापती कॅप्टन फ्रान्सिस एफ. स्टाँटन करीत होता तर मराठा साम्राज्याच्या बाजूने २८,००० सैनिक होते, ज्याचे नेतृत्व सेनापती पेशवा बाजीराव दुसरा करीत होता. इंग्रजांच्या सैनिकांत 'बॉम्बे नेटिव लाइट इन्फेंट्री तुकडी'चे ५०० महार सैनिक होते, काही युरोपियन व इतर काही सैनिक होते. मराठ्यांच्या सैनिकांत मराठा, अरब व गोसाई या सैनिकांचा समावेश होता. पेशवाईच्या काळात अस्पृश्यतेचे पालन मोठ्या प्रमाणावर होत होते व महार, मांग व इतर अस्पृश्यांना अत्यंत हीन वागणूक दिली जात असे, याला विरोध म्हणून महार सैनिक आत्मसन्मासाठी ब्रिटिशांच्या बाजूने मराठ्यांविरूद्ध लढले.

महात्मा ज्योतिबा फुले यांनी पुणे येथे भिडे वाड्यात पहिली मुलींची शाळा सुरू केली. समाजाच्या विरोधात जाऊन एखादं चांगलं काम करायचं झालेतरी अंगावर दगडी पडतात. सगळ्यात या दगडी खाण्याची हिम्मत असतेच असे नाही, मनात खूप असते ओ पण समाज काय म्हणेल या विचारातून उठणाऱ्या मनातल्या लाटा पुन्हा मनातचं विरून जातात. पण क्रांतीज्योती कधीच डगमगली नाही, नावाप्रमाणेचं महात्मा  जोतीबा फूलेंनी अज्ञानाचा अंधकार दूर करण्यासाठी सुरवात केली होती.

Battle of Koregaon Bhima
This is a historical battle fought on the banks of river Bhima in the village of Koregaon Bhima in Pune district of Maharashtra. This battle took place on 1 January. It was formed in 1818 between the British British East India Company and the Maratha Empire. The British side had a total of 834 troops, led by Captain Francis F. While Stanton was doing, there were 28,000 soldiers on the side of the Maratha Empire, led by General Peshwa Bajirao II. The British troops consisted of 500 Mahar soldiers of the Bombay Native Light Infantry, some Europeans and some others. The Maratha army consisted of Maratha, Arab and Gosai soldiers. During the Peshwa period, untouchability was widely practiced and Mahars, Mangs and other untouchables were treated very badly. In opposition to this, Mahar soldiers fought against the Marathas on the side of the British for self-respect.
