तामीलनाडू मधील वेलोरचा किल्ला हंबीरराव, रघुनाथपंत व आनंदराव मकाजी यांनी जिंकला. जिंजी येथील राजकारण यशस्वी करून आणि जिंजी ताब्यात घेउन छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज वेल्लोर किल्ला जिंकायला स्वतः जातीने दाखील झाले होते. किल्ल्याला वेढा घालून सुद्धा किल्ला सहजा-सहजी हातात येणार नाही आणि ह्यात वेळ बराच जाणार आहे असे समजल्यावर त्यांनी रघुनाथपंत व आनंदराव मकाजी यांच्यावर ही कामगिरी सोपवली. पूर्ण किल्ल्याला चारही बाजूने खोल खंदक असून सुद्धा हा किल्ला मराठ्यान्नी जिंकला.

पोर्तुगीजांच्या वाढत्या हालचालींना पायाबंद घालण्यासाठी मराठ्यांनी शंभूराजांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली उत्तर कोकणात रेवाड्यांवर चढाई केली आणि चौलच्या किल्ल्याला वेढा घातला. किल्ल्यावरील कॅप्टन दोम फ्रान्सीस्को द कास्त याने मराठ्यांनी लावलेल्या शिड्या खाली ढकलून दिल्या. वसईच्या जनरलने मराठ्यांविरुद्ध सिद्दी याकुताखानाकडून ४०० सैनिकांची कुमक मिळवली. त्यापैकी किमान ५० जण बुडून मेले. युद्धाला तोंड फुटले. पोर्तुगीजांच्या अचूक नेमबाजीमुळे मराठे ठार होऊ लागले हे पाहताच शंभूराजांनी माघार घेऊन जवळच्या टेकडीवरील कोरलईच्या किल्ल्यावर हल्ला केला. किल्ल्याच्या कॅप्टनने गुप्तपणे किल्ला चढणाऱ्या मराठ्यांना पाहून तोफा डागल्या. शंभूराजांच्या आज्ञेवरून निळो मोरेश्वर पेशव्यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली मराठ्यांनी उत्तरेतील मुलखाची जाळपोळ केली.

The fort of Vellore in Tamil Nadu was conquered by Hambirrao, Raghunath Pant and Anandrao Makaji. With the success of politics at Jinji and the capture of Jinji, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj himself entered the caste to conquer Vellore fort. He entrusted the task to Raghunath Pant and Anandrao Makaji after realizing that the fort would not be easily captured even after the siege of the fort. The fort was conquered by the Marathas despite having deep moats on all sides.

To thwart the growing movement of the Portuguese, the Marathas under the leadership of Shambhuraj marched on Rewada in North Konkan and laid siege to the fort of Chaul. Captain Dom Francisco de Cast on the fort pushed down the ladders planted by the Marathas. The general of Vasai got the help of 400 soldiers from Siddi Yakutakhana against the Marathas. At least 50 of them drowned. The war broke out. Seeing that the Marathas were being killed due to the accurate firing of the Portuguese, Shambhu Raja withdrew and attacked the fort of Koralai on a nearby hill. The captain of the fort saw the Marathas secretly climbing the fort and fired. On the orders of Shambhuraj, the Marathas under the leadership of Nilo Moreshwar Peshwa set fire to Mulkha in the north.
